Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the inequality between blacks and whites in the Brazilian educational system, to review the literature on the importance of early childhood care and to estimate, through the methods of OLS and PSM, the effect of the entrance into early childhood education on the Portuguese language and mathematics proficiency of the students of the 5th year of elementary school, especially the group of black students of Sertãozinho (SP). The results show high positive effects in the proficiencies, including for the group of black students and leads to believe that the expansion of investment in early childhood education would reduce the inequality of performance and school trajectory between blacks and whites. However, the Brazilian case has a deep and historical racial issue and the black population is at a great disadvantage in several social and economic aspects, and the State and brazilian society must also plan other public policies parallel to the policy of promoting equality of opportunity Early childhood education. |

O país apresenta desigualdade educacional histórica entre negros e brancos e a literatura referente ao tema da atenção à primeira infância mostra que o investimento na educação infantil é de extrema importância, pois contribui diretamente para o desenvolvimento das crianças, gerando impactos positivos em suas vidas, em especial naquelas oriundas das classes mais desfavorecidas. Diante disso, o trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a desigualdade entre negros e brancos no sistema educacional brasileiro, percorrer a literatura sobre a importância da atenção à primeira infância e estimar, por meio dos métodos de MQO e PSM, o efeito do ingresso na educação infantil sobre a proficiência de língua portuguesa e matemática em alunos do 5º ano do ensino fundamental, tomando como amostra um grupo de alunos negros do munícipio de Sertãozinho (SP). Os resultados apresentam efeitos positivos nas proficiências, inclusive para o grupo de alunos negros, e leva crer que a expansão do investimento na educação infantil permitiria a diminuição da desigualdade do desempenho e trajetória escolar entre negros e brancos.
